Does my child need to have a story idea ready?Β
Every child has a story in them β sometimes it just needs a little unlocking. In our first session, we ask a few simple questions about what your child loves, dreams about, and imagines. The idea always emerges naturally from them. The Sapling Press will never write the story for your child β that would defeat the whole purpose. The words, the imagination, the creativity β that's entirely theirs. We just help bring it out.
How long does the whole process take?Β
From your first session to a printed book in your hands β approximately 20β30 days. We work with you through story development, illustrations, and layout, and send you a full proof PDF for approval before anything goes to print. Once you approve, your book is printed and delivered to your door. Timelines can vary slightly depending on how quickly families review and approve the proof β but most books are in hand within 20β30 days of the first session.
What does the finished book look like?Β
A beautiful softcover book with custom illustrations on every page, a professionally designed cover, and a back cover featuring your child's photo and author bio. It looks and feels like a real published book β because it is.
Do I approve the book before it's printed?
Yes,always. We send you a full proof PDF to review before we print anything. Nothing goes to print without your sign-off.Β
How many copies do I get?Β
The base package includes 1 printed copy. Additional copies are available for $15 each β perfect for grandparents, aunts, uncles, or your child's classroom.
Is there a PDF I can download?Β
Yes. Every book featured on our Stories page is available as a high-resolution PDF for $5. Once a child's book has been created and delivered to their family, we make the PDF available for anyone to purchase β perfect for grandparents, cousins, or family abroad who'd love a digital copy.
Can we make changes after seeing the proof?
Yes. Once the story is developed and we share the proof PDF, you get one round of revisions to make any changes you'd like. After that round is approved, your book goes to print.
Who owns the story and the book?Β
Your child does. The story, the words, and the imagination are entirely theirs β and the finished book clearly lists your child as the author on the cover and inside.Β
How does the coaching work? Is it Zoom, phone, or in person?Β
One 45-minute session with your child, done however works best for your family β Zoom, phone, or in person if you're local to the Bay Area. That single conversation is where the story takes shape.Β
How does shipping work?Β
We ship the finished book directly to your address, and shipping is included in the price. No extra charge, no surprises at checkout.
What's your refund policy?Β
Because so much of the work happens up front β the coaching session, story development, illustration, and layout β we're not able to offer refunds once the proof PDF is ready or the book has gone to print. If you have concerns before that point, just reach out and we'll work through it together.
